Garden City, N.Y. - Seniors Alvin Vivican (Brentwood, N.Y.) and Gianna Smith (Hempstead, N.Y.) have been named Adelphi's Athletes of the Week for the week January 7, 2008.

Vivican averaged 16.5 points per game last week to help the Panthers to a 1-1 record on the week. In a 63-60 non-conference win over Franklin Pierce Vivican scored 24 points on 9-13 shooting, including 6-8 from distance. In that win Vivican put up 15 points in the first half on 5-7 shooting from behind the three-point line. He also added two rebounds, two steals and three assists as well as nine points in a loss to Mercy.

Adelphi returns to action on Wednesday, January 10 when they play Bloomfield College in Bloomfield, New Jersey.

Smith scored 15 points and pulled down 13 rebounds in a 67-59 loss to Mercy College on January 5. Smith scored 15 points on 5-11 shooting from the field and 5-5 from the free throw line. She also pulled down eight defensive rebounds and added three assists, two steals and one block.

Adelphi returns to action on Wednesday, January 10 when they travel to West Haven, Connecticut for a 7:00 pm meeting with New Haven.
