Feb. 2, 2003 Garden City, N.Y. - Guest speaker Susan Cassidy and keynote speaker Susan Peterson-Lebow each gave inspirational and positive remarks at the second annual New York Collegiate Athletic Conference (NYCAC) Senior Female Athletes Brunch, held Sunday on the campus of Adelphi University. The event attracted over 150 student-athletes, coaches, faculty and administrators, which was created in conjunction with National Girls and Women In Sports Day (NGWSD). NYCAC Commissioner Carmine Calzonetti was on hand to present Southampton senior Theryn Henkel with the award for the highest grade point average by a senior female in the conference. Henkel, a member of the women's basketball team, has maintained an impressive 4.0 gpa and will graduate with a degree in environmental science. Cassidy and Lebow each spoke of the benefits of athletes and how it will prepare the student-athletes for life after sports. They both emphasized the importance of a good work ethic, belief in oneself and never giving up on your goals. Kate Whalen, Adelphi Senior Women's Administrator and host of the event expressed gratitude for the assistance of the conference SWA's, speakers and the student-athletes for making the event and success.
