Garden City, N.Y. -
Adelphi University hosted the 5th Annual NYCAC Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) brunch, on Sunday, October 12, at the Adelphi Alumni Center. The brunch provided the opportunity for the member institutions to discuss ways to implement and improve SAAC as well as NCAA Division II legislative changes and their effect on student-athletes throughout the conference.
Adelphi SAAC Executive Board President, Jennifer Garone, was the MC of the event, which brought together over 50 student-athletes, coaches and administrators. NYIT Athletic Director Clyde Doughy and Division II SAAC representative, Allison Schultz, spoke on the Division II Management Council summit held this summer. Don McPherson, coordinator of Athletes Helping Athletes, was the guest speaker of the event.
In the past, the SAAC brunch provided an outlet for member institutions to exchange ideas on how best to start and run a SAAC program. T the goal of this year's meeting was to progress from that starting point and concentrate more on legislation effecting student-athletes.
Each SAAC group also had an opportunity to publicize events and activities that were successful at their respective institutions and to also promote and exchange ideas for the upcoming year.
SAAC is committed to generating a positive voice for the student-athletes within its university and the NCAA. Its mission is to enhance the total student-athlete experience by promoting opportunity, protecting student-athlete welfare and fostering a positive student-athlete image.
