Mike Belfiore came to Adelphi University in July of 2002 as the Assistant Director of Campus Recreation, he now is beginning his third year as Head Cross-Country and Track and Field Coach. Belfiore graduated from SUNY Cortland in 2000 with a Bachelor's in physical education, and then went on to earn a master's in recreation management also from SUNY Cortland. Before attending Cortland Belfiore was a standout athlete at Liberty High School in Liberty, New York. While at Liberty Belfiore competed in Amateur Athletic Union cross-country nationals for three consecutive years from 1992-94, and was a two time section champion in the steeplechase. During his tenure at Cortland Belfiore ran varsity track for the Red Dragons in the spring of '97. In the spring of 2003 Belfiore became the assistant track coach for the Panthers. He acquired the title of interim head coach when Joe Bonvicino stepped down. Shortly after Belfiore was named head coach of the cross-country team for the fall of 2003. During his two full seasons at the helm, Belfiore has guided both the men's cross country teams to two consecutive third place finishes at the New York Collegiate Athletic Conference (NYCAC) Championships and helped the women to a third place showing in 2004. He also produced an outdoor CTC title in the men's 4x800 meter relay in 2004 and guided the men to an indoor school record 8:02.78 at the 2005 indoor CTC Championships. Belfiore has also produced five all-conference performers in cross country and coached Ryan Soltan to an individual Collegiate Track Conference (CTC) title in the 3,000 meter steeplechase in 2005. In addition to his head coaching duties for both track and cross-country Belfiore is Assistant Director of Campus Recreation. His duties include running intramurals, the day-to-day operation of the pool and fitness center, as well as working with special events and student staff. Belfiore was born in Mineola, N.Y., and currently makes his home in Bellerose. |
