The Adelphi track and field team traveled to Newark, Delaware on Saturday, February 2 to compete in the Thomson Invitational at the University of Delaware. The women scored 141 points, out distancing Richard Stockton (94) and Moravian (92) to capture the team title. The men posted a third place finish (102), trailing Moravian (131) and Salisbury (128).
The women posted five first place finishes and 11 top-three showings to pick up the team title. Jenilee Fuertes picked up a win in the 500 meter run, crossing the line in a time of 1:28.56. Danielle Lyons also picked up a first place finish, clocking a time of 3:06.64 in the 1000 meter run, while Ify Anene won the mile in a time of 5:23.83.
Melissa Coelho was the fourth individual to pick up a first place finish, winning the 5000 meter run in a personal best of 19:22.30. The women's 4x800 meter relay also placed first as Lyons, Fuertes, Heather Troutman and Elise Maniguet combined to post a time of 10:14.93.
The men also racked up five first place finishes and eight top-three placings, led by Mark Pollard's first place finish in the 200 meter run (23.14). Ryan Pezzulo clocked in at 2:37.80 in the 1000 meter run to place first, while Sean Harte posted a time of 4:31.81, picking up a first place finish.
Mike Dorman rounded out Adelphi's individual first place finishers, winning the 5000 meter run in a time of 16:38.44. The men's 4x800 meter relay also placed first, as Obed Bienne, Harte, Pezzulo and Aaron Warner posted a time of 8:11.98.
The Panthers return to action on Friday, February 8 when they travel to the New Balance Track and Field Center in New York, New York to compete in the New Balance Collegiate Invitational.
