Lyons Named ECAC Track and Field Athlete of The Week

Garden City, N.Y. - Adelphi University track and field athlete Danielle Lyons (South Glastonbury, CT) has been named East Coast Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division II Track Athlete of the Week as announced by the conference office on Wednesday, February 13. This is the third time this season that Lyons has been honored by the ECAC.

Lyons placed 21st out of 69 runners in the college division of the 800 meter run at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational, crossing the line in a time of 2:16.89. While not only a new school record, Lyon's time is under the NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark of 2:18.3, making her the first female track and field athlete to run a NCAA qualifying mark in over two decades.

In addition Lyons captured Collegiate Track Conference (CTC) titles in the 800 meter run (2:20.18) and the 1000 meter run (3:00.83) on Sunday, February 10, earning a trip to the ECAC Championship meet in March. She also helped the women capture second overall at the CTC Indoor Championship meet.

Adelphi returns to action on February 29 when they travel to the New Balance Track and Field Center in New York, New York to compete in the NYU Fastrack Invitational.
