March 13, 2008 Boca Raton, FL - The Adelphi University baseball team continued its tour of Florida on Wednesday, March 12 when they took on Lynn University in Boca Raton, Florida. The Panthers took a 6-5 lead into the ninth inning but could not hold on, falling 7-6. The loss drops Adelphi to 3-6 overall, while Lynn improves to 17-7. Adelphi and Lynn traded runs in the second inning as Pat O'Neill scored unearned from second on a Lynn error. The Panthers picked up two more runs in the sixth, thanks to a two run home run to left center from O'Neill, giving the Panthers a 3-1 edge. Lynn got one run back in the bottom of the sixth, but a Thomas Harper single to left, scored Mike Mongiello, putting Adelphi back up by two runs, 4-2. Lynn answered with three runs in the bottom of the seventh to take their first lead of the game 5-4. However, Adelphi would not quit, rolling off two more runs in the eighth. Boelsen drove in the first run with a single up the middle, and Edward Ford scored the second run on another Lynn error, giving Adelphi a 6-5 lead. Adelphi held Lynn scoreless in the eighth, but a sac fly in the bottom of the ninth knotted the score at six, while a two-out single drove in the winning run for Lynn in the 10th. Lanigan threw 6.1 innings, striking out five and allowing three runs. O'Neill led the offense, going 1-5, with two RBI and two runs scored. Adelphi returns to action on Thursday, March 13 when they take on Northwood University in Boca Raton, Florida. |
