Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University women's soccer team placed five women on the East Coast Conference all-conference team as selected by the conference coaches. The teams were announced Sunday at the conclusion of the ECC women's soccer tournament championship at the University of Bridgeport. Senior Denise Auer earned first-team honors, after leading the Panthers in assists (4). She is also second on the team in goals (6) and points (16). Sophomore Caitlin Morrison made a second-team appearance and leads the Panthers in goals (9) and points(20). Juniors Theresa Ennis and Amanda Herrera along with senior Christine Conway all earned third-team accolades. Both Herrera and Ennis earned honors for their defensive play, while Conway was a selection at goalkeeper. Junior forward Selina Moylan of the University of New Haven has been named the East Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Year Moylan notched 17 goals and eight assists for 42 points overall including four game winning scores this past season for the Chargers. Sophomore defender Emma Woolley of Bridgeport was named Defensive Player of the Year. Woolley was a stalwart of a Purple Knight defense that helped post a team goals against average of 1.29 and six shutouts. Freshman forward Linda Velaj of Bridgeport was named Rookie of the Year, after posting a memorable first season that included 13 goals and three assists for 29 points including four game winners. Magnus Nilerud of Bridgeport earned Coach of the Year honors after guiding the Purple Knights to a share of the ECC regular season championship with a 9-1 record and a 14-5 overall mark. Adelphi returns to action on Friday, November 9 in the first round of the NCAA Division II Tournament. |
