Game Two|Game Three

Pembroke, N.C. - The Adelphi University softball team faced #10 Francis Marion, #16 UNC-Pembroke and Limestone College in the East Carolina Softball Classic. The Panthers dropped their first two games, 5-0 and 2-0, before rallying to a 6-2 victory in game three.

Game Two
Sophomore Jelena Shaw homered in her first at bat of the game to give the Braves (24-9) the early edge and then added an insurance run in the fifth on a throwing error by the Panthers' third baseman.

Martika Elmore (11-3) pitched the complete game shutout for the Braves giving up four hits with 11 strikeouts and no walks for her 11th win of the season. Senior Samantha Tilton (0-1) recorded the loss in 2.2 innings allowing one earned run and striking out two. Freshman Leighann Bell finished the game with two hits, one run, one walk and two strikeouts.

Game Three
The Panthers rattled off four runs in the second inning to pull ahead of the Saints. Senior Bailey Lawrence pinch ran for Seamster who reached first on a single. Lawrence then advanced on a Julie Schaper single before crossing homeplate on a fielder's choice. Senior Dely Francisco, who was 2-for-4, singled up the right side which brought in Schaper and senior Allison Rice. Next, junior Angela Martin, who walked to first, scored the final run of the inning on a throwing error by the Saint's third baseman.

The Saints scored their two runs on home runs by Jordan Goodman and Chelsea Anthony in the fourth inning. both players were 1-for-3 in the game.

In the bottom of the fourth, Adelphi added two more runs with Francisco scoring on a double by Katie Brophy. Brophy stole third then scored on a Diana DiPiano fielder's choice when the shortstop was unable to get her out at homeplate.

The game was called in the top of the seventh inning due to lightening.

Schaper (3-0) recorded the win in 3.0 innings, allowing two hits, while walking three and striking out three. Tilton pitched the final three innings in relief, allowing two earned runs, while striking out one. Emily Wallace took the loss for Limestone, dropping to 7-9.

Adelphi completes its southern trip. which included games against three Top 25 ranked teams, with a 4-10 record. The Panthers return to action next Saturday, March 22, when they travel to Southern Connecticut State for a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader.
