Garden City, N.Y. - Seniors Julie Schaper and Dely Francisco along with junior Diana DiPiano were each selected to the 2008 Daktronics Softball Northeast All-Region team team released this afternoon following a vote by the region's Sports Information Directors. Dowling College outfielder Taras Wallace and Georgian Court's Samantha Sasko were selected as Player of the Year and Pitcher of the Year, respectively. C.W. Post, the No. 1 team in the region and host of this week's NCAA regional, placed four players on the first and second team while Adelphi and Caldwell College, both participants in the NCAA tournament, each placed three players on the all-region team. Schaper and DiPiano were selected to the first team, while Francisco was named a second-team selection. Schaper, the 2008 ECC Pitcher of the Year, was a second-team pick in 2006. This is the third appearance for thirdbaseman DiPiano who was also named to the first-team in 2007 and the second-team in 2006. This is the first all-region nod for Francisco. Members of the First Team Northeast All-Region team will appear on the national All-America ballot. All-America ballots will be distributed May 9 with announcement of the All-America team expected for May 16. NORTHEAST ALL-REGION FIRST TEAM
