Garden City, N.Y. - It was announced, Monday, March 17 that Adelphi women's volleyball coach Danielle MacKnight will be honored as the Female College Coach of the Year by the Nassau County Sports Commission. MacKnight will be honored at the 14th Annual Awards Dinner at 7:00 pm on Monday, April 28, 2008 at the Chateau Briand in Carle Place, New York.

MacKnight earned East Coast Conference (ECC) Co-Coach of the Year honors, in just her first season as head coach of the Panthers. MacKnight led Adelphi to a 7-2 ECC record, finishing tied for second place, the Panthers highest conference finish ever. Adelphi also posted an overall mark of 27-8, that included a school record 11-game win streak.

Adelphi's 27 wins was also a school record and helped the Panthers to earn the program's first bid to the NCAA Division II Northeast Regional. MacKnight also had two players honored with all-conference awards, as Lauren Flanagan was a first-team selection and Brittany Addeo appeared on the second-team.

The dinner honors athletes for excellence in sports, academics, and community service, and coaches for exceptional commitment to athletes, sportsmanship, and community.
