Adelphi University and the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics will support Breast Cancer Awareness through the month of October in support of Jennifer Montgomery as part of its AU Athletics "Think Pink" campaign. Jennifer is the wife of former Adelphi men's soccer coach, Bob Montgomery, and the catalyst for the fund-raiser. She is currently undergoing treatment for breast cancer and all proceeds from the department's efforts will be donated in her name to the Adelphi New York Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program. "Jennifer is a part of the Adelphi family," Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Robert Hartwell said. "She and Bob have been associated with our department for over 30 years and their children have attended the school and played soccer here. It is only right that we do something to help and I hope this can become an annual event." Throughout the month of October, the Athletic Department along with its student-athletes, coaches, staff and administrators sold pink wristbands embossed with the "AU Athletics Thinks Pink" message and pink t-shirts. In addition, teams and other campus departments donated raffle baskets. The fall sports teams also wore the "Think Pink" t-shirts during warm-up of pre-determined athletic contests to further promote the effort. Created in 2007, the event has already raised over $6,000 in support of the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline and Support Program. |
